PET/CT PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Below is a list of instructions for patients preparing for PET/CT Scans.

ALL SCANS ARRIVE 30 MIN PRIOR TO APPT TIME.

PLEASE INFORM STAFF IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING NEULASTA BY THE ON BODY AUTO-INJECTOR OR ARE WEARING FREESTYLE LIBRE FOR BLOOD GLUCOSE MONITORING.

NON DIABETIC PATIENTS:

  • You may have unlimited black coffee or WATER only the day of your appointment. You may brush your teeth.
  • No feeding tube or intravenous feedings for 8 hours prior to the exam.
  • No gum, candy, mints, cough drops, diet soda, coffee creamer, artificial sweeteners, etc. 8 hours prior to the scan.
  • Medications are okay EXCEPT for Lasix and/or steroids. (MUST be off Lasix and steroids 10-12 hours prior to the exam.)
  • No strenuous activity 24 hours before exam.
  • Wear warm clothing with little to no metal. Please leave jewelry at home.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access. Be well hydrated.
  • Total appointment time will be 1.5-2 hours. Please plan for some wait time. You may bring something to read or earbuds for listening to music on your phone.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

DIABETIC PATIENTS:

  • Day of scan, take diabetic medications (pills and/or insulin) 6 hours before scan WITH a high protein meal. Meals MUST be consumed 6 hours prior to appointment time.
  • No feeding tube or intravenous feedings for 8 hours prior to the exam.
  • You may have unlimited black coffee or WATER only the day of your appointment. You may brush your teeth.
  • No gum, candy, mints, cough drops, diet soda, coffee creamer, artificial sweeteners, etc. the day of scan.
  • Medications are okay EXCEPT for Lasix and/or steroids. (MUST be off Lasix and steroids 10-12 hours prior to the exam.)
  • If blood glucose is above 180 the day of the scan, please call 918-505-3201 ext. 4107 or 4108. (TAKE GLUCOSE LEVEL A COUPLE HOURS PRIOR TO APPT TIME).
  • Wear warm clothing with little to no metal. Please leave jewelry at home.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access. Be well hydrated.
  • Total appointment time will be 1.5-2 hours. Please plan for some wait time. You may bring something to read or earbuds for listening to music on your phone.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

PET BRAIN SCANS:

FOLLOW ABOVE PET INSTRUCTIONS.

PET PYLARIFY:

There is NO PREP.

PET DOTATATE:

There is NO PREP.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Below is a list of instructions for patients preparing for nuclear medicine procedures.

ALL SCANS ARRIVE 30 MIN PRIOR TO APPT TIME.

PLEASE INFORM STAFF IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING NEULASTA BY THE ON BODY AUTO-INJECTOR OR ARE WEARING FREESTYLE LIBRE FOR BLOOD GLUCOSE MONITORING.

BONE SCAN:

  • Please be well hydrated, drink plenty of water.
  • Food, beverages and medications are okay to take before appointment.
  • Total appointment time is approximately 3 hours. Please plan for some wait time.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids. (YOU MAY LEAVE AFTER INJECTION AND RETURN IN 2 HOURS.)

MUGA:

  • No caffeine for 4 hours prior to scan (this includes decaffeinated coffee).
  • Food, non-caffeinated beverages, and medications are okay to take before appointment.
  • Total appointment time is approximately 1 hour. Please plan for some wait time.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

PARATHYROID:

  • No calcium meds, thyroid meds, or IV/Oral CT contrast one week prior to scan.
  • Food, beverages, and medications besides those listed above are okay the day of study.
  • Total appointment time is 3.5 hours. Please plan for some wait time.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

LIVER:

  • None. Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

RENAL:

  • Hydrate before procedure.
  • Food, beverages, and medications are okay to take the day of appointment, EXCEPT for Lasix and Blood Pressure medications.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • Total appointment time is 1 hour.
  • After your scan you may resume normal activities and diet. Please drink plenty of fluids.

HIDA:

  • Request date and time from nuclear medicine techs.
  • Please be prepared for IV or port access.
  • Nothing by mouth 6 hours prior.
  • Total appointment time is 2 hours.

DUE TO DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS, FOR THE FOLLOWING SCANS FOLLOW-UP CALLS FOR PATIENT PREP WILL BE DONE: Thyroid whole body, Thyroid Uptake and scan.

CT/MRI/ULTRASOUND PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS

Below is a list of instructions for patients preparing for CT/MRI scans or Ultrasounds.

ALL SCANS ARRIVE 30 MIN PRIOR TO APPT TIME. FOR ULTRASOUND, ARRIVE 15 MIN PRIOR.
