September was National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Ovarian Cancer is a difficult cancer to treat because women often seek help only after it has begun to spread. However, it too can be beaten with early discovery and diagnosis.
OCSRI is always working to improve our diagnosis methods in order to find cancer in its earliest stages; our most recent addition to the team, Dr. Eric D. Thomas, helps us do just that. Gynecological oncologists are trained specifically for diagnosing and treating the cancers that start in a woman’s reproductive organs. To earn this degree, doctors must devote years upon years studying all of the many subspecialties required to make the best decisions regarding all aspects of reproductive cancer care. Because of their broad training, gynecological oncologists like Dr. Thomas serve as the captain of ovarian cancer-care teams.
We spent National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month helping our patients fight back against ovarian cancer, and you helped, too. You wore your best teal and helped spread awareness. When early diagnosis plays a such a large role in treatment, knowledge can save lives!
